Pre-Major

Students interested in pursuing a major in communication or journalism are encouraged to declare a pre-communication or pre-journalism major with their Arts and Sciences advisor during Orientation or during their first year at The Ohio State University. As a pre-major student, you will be fulfilling critical introductory coursework, preparing you to apply to your School of Communication focus area of choice.
2011-2012 Academic Year Requirements
Pre-major students are required to complete the pre-major course requirements listed below:
Communication Major
- COMM 101 - History of Human Communication, or transferred equivalent (with a grade of C- or better)
- COMM 200 - Communication & Society, or transferred equivalent (with a grade of a C- or better)
Journalism Major
- COMM 101 - History of Human Communication, or transferred equivalent (with grade of C- or better)
- COMM 200 - Communication & Society, or transferred equivalent (with grade of C- or better)
Once the pre-major coursework is completed, students are eligible to apply online for admissions to the major. Applications are accepted each term for every major.

Pre-Major Information Sessions
The School of Communication Undergraduate Advising Office holds several pre-major information sessions each quarter. All sessions will be held in 3150 Derby Hall.
