Transfer Credit
The School of Communication welcomes students who have successfully completed college course work at other post-secondary institutions to have coursework evaluated for transfer credit. During the university's admissions process, official transcripts are reviewed for equivalent transfer credit through the Transfer Credit Center (read about university Transfer Admission) for pre-major students. After this initial evaluation, some coursework may need further evaluation by the academic department. At the request of the student, communication and journalism related coursework can be evaluated by the Undergraduate Advising Office in the School of Communication for transfer credit.
Instructions for Communication or Journalism related Transfer Credit Evaluation:
- Complete the Transfer Credit Evaluation Form

Please provide a copy of your transfer credit report (found on Buckeye Link) and a copy of the syllabus for each course being reviewed. - Submit the Transfer Credit Evaluation Form to an Academic Advisor in the School of Communication, located in 3033 Derby Hall, 154 North Oval Mall, Columbus, OH 43210.
- The evaluation will be made within 7-10 business days and you will receive an email notification reflecting the determination.
Transfer students currently enrolled at The Ohio State University are eligible for admission to the major (communication or journalism) after completion of the pre-major course requirements and 30 hours of completed coursework at OSU (read more in Admissions Information).
Beginning in Summer 2012 semester, transfer student admission requirements to the majors in the School of Communication will be changing, eliminating the 30 credit hour OSU coursework requirement. Students with transfer credit for the pre-major coursework will be eligible to apply for admission to the major by the 2nd Friday of their first quarter. Transfer students without transfer credit for pre-major coursework will be eligible to apply after the pre-major coursework is completed.
