Psychological Association Honors Nathanson

NathansonAPA-logoAmy Nathanson, Associate Professor and Associate Director for Undergraduate Studies, has been recognized by the Media Psychology division of the American Psychological Association with its prestigious award for Distinguished Scientific Contributions to Media Psychology.

This award recognizes outstanding empirical and/or theoretical contributions to the field of media psychology.

Among Nathanson's studies are how children use and are affected by the mass media, including how parent-child interaction (including parents' communication practices) shapes media effects among children. She has recently studied the effect of parental mediation on children's responses to violent television and programs containing gender stereotypes, the relative influence of parent and peer mediation of television, and how children interpret their parents' mediation messages.
